The Namutere Shalom Community Church.

As a community project dedicated to development work in our community, we endeavor to develop a holistic view of development. We offer a Christian-integrated approach to development that does not separate the spiritual from the community's holistic development.
Community Leaders Workshop 2012

The Namutere Shalom community church began as an outcome of the annual community leaders summit, where we brought all community leaders together to discuss and build their leadership capacity.

A large percentage of the leaders who attended were church leaders, and yes, this community is deeply Christian.

Small group discussions

As we continued hosting missionary volunteers who served in the project as medical workers and teachers, they initiated evening Bible study, mostly with young people.

This evening Bible study grew steadily, and by then Pastor Patrick, our project coordinator, was completing theological education. After completing it, he began providing leadership and insight to the fellowship, which met at the health center building. This church has grown into the Namutere Shalom Community Church under the leadership of pastor Patrick Wandera.

Through the church arm, we have continued to provide theological training for over 200 pastors annually in our community. See here for our continued partnership with Apollos USA to offer pastoral training.

Our community's needs require a holistic approach, and while we continue to respond to physical and psychological needs as best we can, we recognize that the deepest poverty is spiritual: a lack of connection with God. We are keen to encourage our community as they seek meaning and purpose, to find their true identity as children of God. We therefore begin with God's story, which invites us all toward restoration with God. The big story of what God wants and is doing compels us to care for the needy community and to work for human transformation.

Our programs as a project is a very small part of what God is doing in this community

The church has continued to grow and has begun construction independently. We are therefore inviting you into this journey to watch and see what God will do with this church as it advances the kingdom of God and brings pastors into theological training. Pray that this church will continue to hear God's leading, as He is already at work, and contribute where He calls them. Pray for the church leadership to shepherd God's people well. Pray for the believers who meet here, that they would deeply understand who they are in Christ and be salt in the community.  Pray and see if God leads you to give and support this part of the Shalom project.

We are happy to report that roofing is in progress, and soon the Namutere Shalom Community Church will have a home.

Yours truly,
Robert Edube- Executive Director
