ITS NOT CHARITY ITS JUSTICE
Dismiss the crowd so they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37But Jesus told them, “You give to them something to eat.” (Mark 6:37)
Uganda has been hit by a very bad drought from 2016 and Different parts of Uganda such as Karamoja sub-region, Teso sub-region and Isingiro and Busia District have been hit by drought and famine this year.
As Shalom we work with the community and lots of our project kids and the women we work with have been crying of hunger, the maize floor we had bought for the project could not stay because a lot of mothers were borrowing a cup for porridge for survival for the day for their families.
We had few respond from social media appeal on 17th May we Travelled to Busia, This time not just to visit Shalom Namutere Project, But with the Lords Command of “You give them something to eat”.
For shalom we don't do this as charity but we feel its a command from Jesus and it can only be Justice to love Gods people and our brothers and sisters for whatsoever we do we do unto the Lord.
Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, 36I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’…
We arrived in Busia early morning Thursday, went to Town and purchased food for the parents/project kids breakfast.
By 9:00am the first parent had arrived with his child, son to his late brother and soon afterwards the compound was full of people, men, women, and their children or at least the children they take care of.

We are keen on proclaiming the gospel because satisfying the stomach can never be sustainable but the word of God is the daily bread and we wouldn't want to present aid without the Savior Jesus who can bring a difference in their lives.
I opened the meeting with a soft welcome and asked the Shalom administrator to say an opening prayer, then invited an elder (Dad) in the village to officially allow us to hold our meeting in His home, which he gladly did.
I talked to the parents about shalom, and the programs we run in the community, challenged them to make sure their children go to schools and also to the project meetings. I asked the children to study hard and fight for their future, shared many experiences of the things I went through as a young boy in this community and how I over came them all.

I encouraged the people on how to face tough times especially the famine they are facing, and finally Introduced to them the Idea of the love of God for us even in tough times, they all listened attentively not saying a word but just nodding their heads some times in agreement.
The meeting turned into a celebration.
It was until I mentioned that we were going to have breakfast, and that we had enough porridge and bread we would break and eat together, then the sad faces turned bright and smiles, shouts, hand claps and sounds of hallelujah, then I knew I had talked to their hearts the language that meet their need.
That is not all, I also mentioned that after our breakfast we will
pray for our land to be fruitful and for the children to succeed in their academics.
But after that I said,
“we will give scholastic materials to the children,,,, some hand claps followed and finally I told them about my Norwegian friend who had give me money to but for them food and that at the end of the meeting everyone would take home at least 15kg of Posho (corn flour) for their families, at this time joy was felt from the all those present young and old. They were going to have breakfast, lunch and supper for the first time in about 3 months of famine.
My people came and told me they have never seen anything like this in their entire life, my Dad told me this act would remain in the History of this community for thousands of years to come. This was the first ever food aid Shalom Namutere Project has carried out to rescue a hungry community.
I want to say thank you very much to my Norwegian friend and Shalom Partner who made this possible, I will not mention your name here but you know yourself.
Please I want you to know that the money you gave provided food for 40 households which could be well over 300 people for the next one week. And surely these people are praying for you and will never for you. They were hungry and you gave them something to eat.
We also gave scholastic materials to 36 children, what a moment of Joy this was to all of us. I shade tears of Joy, I give glory to God that he Chose to use me in my generation to bring his love to the hungry people.
Please note that this was just phase one of the campaign because the season for harvest is still far from ready but also 40 are just a few households many others did not get the donations.
LORD HEAL OUR LAND AND BLESS IT AND CAUSE IT TO YIELD SO THAT YOUR CHIDREN CAN HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT. AMEN |
